The national television station, Radio Telef?s ?ireann (RTE) has studios in all of the major urban centres in the country including Galway. Although the studios have been located in Galway for many years, they have come into increased use in recent times because of heightened media interest and the host of events occurring annually in the city. RTE now also has a greater emphasis on what's happening all over the country, taking the focus away from the major metropolis; Dublin, and it has a number of news correspondents based in the West for this purpose. The studios are usually used for television and radio link-ups with the mother station on news and current affairs programmes.
